We started her session with a cute disney Cinderella castle. She had such a pretty cream dress on! Her next backdrop was an adorable butterfly backdrop mixed with balloons and floral. It’s so hard to believe some of these are just backdrops and not a setup designed in person. The backdrops are so realistic. Her last backdrop was for her cake smash. Her mama chose a mix of magenta/purple balloons and sweet baby girl loved her cake! Another succesful photoshoot with smiles and photos for mama to enjoy for years to come 🙂

Oh my goodness! I can absolutely say that I have the BEST job in the world as a cake smash photographer here in San Antonio! Seriously, what could be better than celebrating the joy and excitement of a little one’s first birthday with a cake smash session? Every session is so unique, and I get to meet the most adorable babies, as well as reconnect with families whose little ones I’ve had the pleasure of photographing before – whether it’s for newborn portraits, 6-month milestone photos, or any other special moments. One of the best parts of being a cake smash photographer is the endless laughter I get to witness. There’s something so special about seeing these little ones light up when they’re surrounded by colorful frosting and cake – it’s like they can’t believe their eyes! Some babies dive right in, eager to make a mess and devour every bite, while others are more cautious, taking tiny little swipes of frosting with the most serious faces. And let’s be honest – even when they’re not quite sure about the cake, those little skeptical expressions are absolutely adorable!

It’s always a guessing game to see how each baby will react. Some are total cake lovers, digging in with both hands and making a huge mess, while others take a more delicate approach, using just one finger to swipe frosting off the cake. I’ve seen some little ones try to make sense of the cake as if they’re pondering a mystery – it’s all part of the fun and makes each session a one-of-a-kind experience. Every baby has their own unique personality, and it’s such a joy to see that shine through during their cake smash.

It’s also so much fun to watch the families who come to celebrate their babies’ big milestone. I get to see parents, grandparents, and siblings all gathered together, cheering the little one on, and even bringing out their best silly voices to try and make their baby giggle. I can’t help but smile when I hear high-pitched voices and silly songs filling the room, as family members try their best to coax that adorable giggle or big smile. Some even start singing nursery songs, hoping to make their little one’s day even more special. The love and joy in the room are absolutely contagious!

It’s also so sweet to witness the bond between parents and their little ones. There’s such a strong connection in the air as parents watch their babies explore the cake for the first time. You can see the pride in their eyes as they see their child hit such an important milestone, and it’s heartwarming to capture those moments for them to cherish forever. After all, these moments only happen once, and being able to preserve them in photos is something truly special.

The Gamble of Cake Reactions

Let’s not forget one of the most unpredictable parts of a cake smash session – the cake itself! Every baby is different, and it’s always a gamble to see whether they’ll absolutely love their cake or find it utterly disgusting. Some babies dive into the cake with full enthusiasm, while others wrinkle their little noses and push the cake away, as if they’re saying, “No thanks!” It’s so fun to capture those first moments of surprise and curiosity – even if the baby isn’t quite sure what to make of the cake.

Celebrating Childhood Joy: A Fall-Inspired Photoshoot with This Sweet Baby Girl

My goodness, there is just so much joy in working with children and capturing their beautiful, shining faces! After 14 years as a photographer, I can honestly say that each and every baby brings a special kind of happiness that is truly priceless. I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and excitement every time I get to photograph little ones. It’s more than just taking pictures—it’s about capturing the magic of childhood, those little moments that parents will cherish for a lifetime. And let me tell you, photographing babies brings me all of those good endorphins every single time!

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is getting to interact with the babies and toddlers I photograph. There’s something so incredibly fun about playing with them, making silly faces, and just enjoying the pure joy they exude. Their laughter is contagious, and every giggle makes my heart melt. When I work with little ones, I always have a few tricks up my sleeve to get them to smile—whether it’s peek-a-boo, funny sounds, or simply engaging with their parents. There’s nothing like seeing a child light up with excitement and joy, especially when they feel comfortable in front of the camera.

For my milestone sessions, clients get to choose from over 160 gorgeous backdrops in my collection, which is something I absolutely love! For this sweet baby girl’s session, her mommy selected some beautiful fall-themed backdrops, which were just perfect since she was born in the autumn! The first backdrop we used featured soft, pretty balloons and delicate floral elements that gave the whole session a warm and cozy vibe—just right for the season. Isn’t it just adorable? The colors were soft and inviting, and it perfectly captured the beauty of this little one’s first milestones. I love how each session can be personalized to reflect the season or the baby’s personality, and this fall-themed backdrop was a perfect match for this sweet girl!

For her second backdrop, her mommy chose a charming pumpkin-themed setup. It was the perfect addition to the fall theme and allowed us to capture more playful and fun moments. We started with some regular portraits before moving on to the cake smash portion of the session. And, of course, the cake smash is always a fun moment! Little ones have the most adorable reactions when they see their first birthday cake in front of them, and this sweet girl was no exception. She enjoyed every moment of the cake smash, and I loved capturing her excitement and joy as she dove into the cake!

To wrap up her session, we transitioned to a beautiful barn door backdrop with lush greenery. This final backdrop created a more rustic and elegant feel and was a perfect backdrop for some additional portraits. But this session didn’t stop there! Her mommy had requested a milk bath session, and it was one of the highlights of the day. It’s always so much fun to see babies splash and play in the water, and this little one had an absolute blast! The milk bath setting provided such a serene and beautiful environment, and I love how it added an extra layer of charm to the overall session.
