One of the greatest joys of being a San Antonio maternity photographer is getting to meet such amazing people — and this mama was no exception. Her bright personality and kind energy lit up the entire session, and it was truly a pleasure spending time with her. I’m definitely a people person at heart, and when I connect with happy, radiant clients like her, it reminds me just how lucky I am to do what I love.

Even better? I’ll get to see her again very soon when she returns for her newborn photography session after her baby arrives — it’s always a full-circle moment that makes my heart so full.

Elegant Gowns, Vibrant Backdrops & Angel Wings

This session was all about color, mood, and variety — and this mama brought all the style.

She started off in a deep purple maternity gown paired with a stunning purple and gold mixed-tone backdrop that added richness and depth to the portraits. For her second look, we switched to a beige gown and a moody green backdrop that gave the images a soft, earthy feel.

I had recently added a brand-new maternity gown to my client closet — and as soon as I saw how beautifully it matched her look, I knew I had to ask if she’d model it. She said yes (yay!) — and absolutely rocked it. The gown paired perfectly with the green tones and created some of my favorite images from the session.

For her final look, she chose something bold and dramatic: a gold and black backdrop with black fabric and stunning angel wings. This look was empowering, radiant, and full of confidence — exactly what I want every mom to feel during her maternity session.

When Priya reached out to book a maternity and newborn photography package, I was so excited she chose to work with me! From our first conversation, it was clear she had a beautiful vision for her session, and I couldn’t wait to bring it to life.

Once we picked a date in late May, the planning began — wardrobe, location, and all the little details that help make a maternity session feel like you. Outdoor maternity sessions in San Antonio can definitely be warm that time of year, but we lucked out with a slightly cooler, breezy day. In Texas, a day in the low 90s can feel like a blessing during late spring!

Gown Selections & Location: The Perfect Pairing

Priya selected two gowns from my client closet, and they were both perfect for the look she wanted. One was a fitted blue maternity dress with a long, dramatic train — always a favorite for creating elegant, timeless images. The second was a flowy blush-pink gown that’s sheer over the belly and soft down to the hem. It catches the light beautifully and adds a dreamy, romantic vibe to the images.

We met at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, one of my favorite spots for maternity photography. This garden is well-maintained year-round, and the flowers are often refreshed with the seasons — so there’s always something new and vibrant in bloom. The stone architecture, koi ponds, and winding paths offer a mix of lush backdrops and textures that photograph beautifully.

A Natural and Joyful Maternity Session

We started with solo portraits of Priya, highlighting her baby bump and that beautiful pregnancy glow. Her husband then joined us for couple portraits, and you could feel the love and excitement between them. One of my favorite parts of maternity sessions is capturing those in-between moments — the laughter, the sweet glances, the anticipation of meeting their baby soon.

When to Book Your Maternity Photos

If you’re expecting and looking for a maternity photographer in San Antonio, I recommend scheduling your session between 28–33 weeks. Around that time, your belly is nice and round, but you’re still feeling comfortable enough to move, pose, and enjoy the experience.

A Beautiful Newborn Session with Baby Kennedy | San Antonio Newborn Photographer

Miss Kennedy’s newborn session was extra special — she’s the second baby I’ve had the honor of photographing for this sweet family! Her big sister was an absolute star during her own session, so I was excited to meet Kennedy and create something equally beautiful for her growing family.

Every newborn session I offer here at Krystal Garcia Photography in San Antonio is fully customized. From the color palette to the props and florals, I work closely with parents (and sometimes generous grandparents!) to design a gallery that feels personal, timeless, and full of love. In this case, it was Kennedy’s wonderful grandmother who gifted the session — such a thoughtful and meaningful way to celebrate a new baby. These photos will be treasured by the family for generations.

Custom Newborn Session with Florals and Soft Tones

The requested colors for Kennedy’s session were white, purple, coral, and dark pink — a stunning combination for a baby girl. I also incorporated lots of floral elements, which added a soft, whimsical touch to each setup. These hues complimented Kennedy’s skin tone beautifully and gave us a wide variety of looks, from classic to dreamy.

Kennedy was just under 2 weeks old when she came into the studio, which is the perfect window for newborn photography. At this age, babies tend to be extra sleepy and still very curly, which makes it easier to pose them safely and comfortably. She needed a few feeding breaks, as most babies do, but overall she was such a dream to photograph.

Capturing Sweet Moments and Tiny Smiles

One of my favorite parts of Kennedy’s session? That sweet smile I caught mid-shoot! Newborn smiles are rare and quick — you really have to be ready at just the right moment to catch one. When I do, it almost always ends up being one of the parents’ favorite images. Kennedy’s smile melted all of us!

Her big sister also joined us for some sibling and family portraits, and she continues to be so photogenic and fun to work with. It’s a joy watching families grow and getting to be part of their story through photography.

Camila’s newborn session went wonderfully. I’m always thrilled to have every family come in and choose me to photograph their new baby. Most come in so excited and still glowing with joy to show their newborn baby. So many love the idea of capturing time with portraits which of course, i love! Each newborn session gets special planning with color schemes, family portraits (sometimes sibling too). I get to hand select outfits, head pieces and props that go with the colors schemes the parents select. Miss Camilla couldn’t have had a better newborn photoshoot. She slept so great and she did so much! Each newborn photoshoot has up to 3 hours of time scheduled with me , and although most don’t need the full session, It means they did really well. 🙂 Momma wanted lots of floral and lots of girly colors for miss Camilla’s newborn session. I especially loved the floral tucked in baby look 🙂

I first met Taylor and her family a few months ago during their maternity session, and it was such a joy to capture that special time before their little one arrived! Taylor is absolutely stunning—beautiful inside and out, with the kindest heart. Being a maternity photographer here in San Antonio has so many amazing perks and one of them is meeting new people and talking to them. I really am blessed to have some of the sweetest people as clients. it’s such a joy to talk to them and walk around and capture their love for each other. I know they are super excited for their new baby and I get the honor of documenting this huge time in their life 🙂

With every maternity, family or any type of outdoor session, clients have complete control on their location choice but I do help guide clients and I have a private link I send to my clients to help them choose their location with example photos to help them decide what fits their style better. At my list of locations, i have my favorite spots and help clients pose and I already know there lighting is best. I do love having that ease.

Maddy chose to start her session with a pair of jeans, a sports bra and a button up shirt for a comfortable but stylish maternity look. We also did some of her photos in the river. The water was actually still cold even though we were already in March 🙂 Mama was a champ even with her cold legs. She then changed into one of my maternity gowns for the last look for her outdoor maternity session. It was such a good color with the outdoor fields that we shot at in Boerne, texas. I am thrilled this beautiful mama chose me to be her maternity photographer 🙂
