There’s something so special about celebrating a baby’s first birthday. One whole year of growing, learning, changing, and developing that little personality everyone has fallen in love with. As a San Antonio cake smash photographer, getting to document this milestone is always such a joy!

This sweet first birthday session was full of color, personality, and some seriously adorable smiles. We started with a fun Baby Shark-inspired birthday setup filled with pink, purple, and blue balloons and under-the-sea details. At one year old, babies are constantly on the move, and I love photographing all of it—the sitting, standing, tiny steps, curious expressions, and those big genuine smiles.

We also kept part of the session simple with a soft balloon setup and a classic rocking horse. I love including a more timeless backdrop alongside a themed first birthday set. While themes are so much fun and help tell the story of what your little one loved at this age, the simpler portraits are often the ones that parents find themselves loving just as much years later.

And of course, we had to finish with a bath! Instead of a traditional plain milk bath, we added strawberries and greenery for the cutest little strawberry-inspired setup. Birthday bath photos are such a fun way to end a first birthday session, especially after all the excitement of photographing a busy one-year-old.

First birthdays deserve to be documented. Your baby will never be this tiny again, and their personality changes so quickly during this season. These photographs become a way to remember exactly who they were right at the beginning of toddlerhood.
