3-Month Milestone Session | San Antonio Milestone Photographer

Sweet little Holden is booked for my milestone package, and we’re officially 2 for 2 with adorable sessions. This age never disappoints!

Three-month milestone sessions are intentionally simple. Babies are still a bit floppy and not fully supporting their heads yet, so unlike a newborn session—where baby is asleep and curled up—we focus on expressions, connection, and those new personality traits starting to shine through. Wide-eyed curiosity, soft smiles, surprise faces… this stage is gold.

At this age, babies tire quickly from holding their heads up. They’re used to being snuggled in cozy arms or resting in a bassinet or bouncer, so we keep posing gentle and low-effort. The good news? Because the setups are simple, we usually have a longer window before they need a nap.

Holden did exactly what most 3-month-olds do—got a little fussy, took a 10-minute power nap, and came back ready for round two. Completely normal, totally unpredictable, and honestly part of the fun at this age.

For his session, we started with the fluffy rug, moved to the posing station, and finished with a few adorable prop setups. He nailed every part.

I’m so thrilled to be working with this beautiful baby girl and her family over the next year! She’s already booked for her 6-month and one-year milestone sessions, and I can’t wait to watch her grow and capture each precious stage along the way.

A Dreamy Newborn Session

For this newborn session, she did absolutely amazing. We started off with family portraits, capturing all those tender first moments together, before moving on to her solo newborn photos. She slept like a champ through every setup, which made for the sweetest poses and expressions.

Her parents decided to skip the traditional “wrapped” style and go for a more natural newborn look — curled in their arms and hands, highlighting just how tiny and new she is. These photos turned out to be so pure and emotional, showing the beautiful connection between baby and parents.

When to Schedule Your Newborn Session

Newborns are best photographed under two weeks old — that’s when they’re still sleepy, flexible, and have that “fresh and new” look. After just a few short weeks, babies begin to fill out, wake up more easily, and aren’t quite as curly for those classic newborn poses.

Camila’s Newborn Photoshoot | San Antonio Newborn Photographer

Camila’s newborn session went wonderfully. I’m always thrilled to have every family come in and choose me to photograph their new baby. Most come in so excited and still glowing with joy to show their newborn baby. So many love the idea of capturing time with portraits which of course, i love! Each newborn session gets special planning with color schemes, family portraits (sometimes sibling too). I get to hand select outfits, head pieces and props that go with the colors schemes the parents select. Miss Camilla couldn’t have had a better newborn photoshoot. She slept so great and she did so much! Each newborn photoshoot has up to 3 hours of time scheduled with me , and although most don’t need the full session, It means they did really well. 🙂 Momma wanted lots of floral and lots of girly colors for miss Camilla’s newborn session. I especially loved the floral tucked in baby look 🙂

Capturing the Sweetest Moments: A San Antonio Newborn Photography Session

It’s always such a joy to watch families grow, and this sweet little girl is no exception. I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family for the second time, and just like her big sister, she was an absolute gem during her newborn session. Her mama had a vision in mind for the session, requesting creams, whites, and soft pinks—such timeless and classic colors that perfectly complement the innocence of a newborn.

To make this session even more special, we included family and sibling portraits. It’s so important to capture the entire family during such a precious time, especially when welcoming a new addition. The love and connection between siblings are something so beautiful to document, and I’m thrilled to have been part of this moment for them.

What truly made this session stand out, though, was a rare and delightful surprise: smiles! Newborns are often quite sleepy and content during their time in the studio, which makes for peaceful and serene images. But when this little one flashed her sweet smile, it was a moment I couldn’t resist. Smiles like that are a true rarity in newborn sessions, and they just melt my heart every time they happen.

Posing newborns is definitely a mix of technique, patience, and creating the right environment. With my years of experience, I’ve learned how to make babies feel calm and safe, which allows for those peaceful moments. But it’s also that little bit of magic that happens when we capture a newborn’s natural expressions—those fleeting, beautiful moments that families will cherish forever.

Newborn sessions are some of my longest and most rewarding photo shoots, allowing me the opportunity to spend 2-3 hours with brand new parents and their precious little ones. Every session is unique, and it’s always a pleasure to see how parents approach the experience. Sometimes, I can tell they’re looking to unwind and rest while I focus on their baby. During those moments, I make sure to keep the atmosphere peaceful and quiet, giving them the space to relax — maybe even sneak in a nap!

On the other hand, there are times when parents are eager to watch every moment as I photograph their newborn. These sessions are especially enjoyable, as I get to chat with them and learn more about their stories — whether it’s about their birth experience, how they met, or what they do for work. I had the privilege of working with a couple that truly stood out during one of these sessions. They were incredibly sweet, and hearing their journey was such a heartwarming experience.

But what really made this session stand out was the mom’s infectious, cheerful energy. It was clear how much love they had for their little one, and that positivity was contagious! As a photographer, there’s nothing more uplifting than meeting parents who exude so much love and joy. Their happiness truly gave me a boost and left me feeling full of good energy — I couldn’t help but smile the whole time!

Capturing Precious Newborn Moments: San Antonio Newborn Photography

As a San Antonio newborn photographer, one of my favorite parts of the job is learning the unique stories behind the families who bring in their little ones. Every family has a journey—a beautiful, sometimes challenging path—that leads them to these precious newborns. Whether it’s the joyous surprise of a “happy accident” or a long road of trying to conceive, fertility treatments, surrogacy, or adoption, each story is special and memorable. I feel truly honored to hear these stories and be a part of such an intimate moment in their lives.

Of course, we couldn’t forget about big brother, who was a total ham in front of the camera! He had such a joyful energy, making the photoshoot even more fun and memorable.

It’s not very often I have clients request the non traditional colors for girl newborn sessions. I love pinks, I love whites, but It’s so much fun to use colors that aren’t requested too often. This mama requested blues, reds, purples and mint/turquoise :).
