When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?

If you’re a parent wondering when to schedule your newborn session, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common questions I get. Many new parents worry:

Here’s what I tell my clients: the best time to pre-book your newborn session is during your second or third trimester. While we won’t set a fixed date until your baby arrives, reserving your spot ensures I’ll have availability when the time comes. Babies tend to be sleepier and more flexible under two weeks old, which makes for those classic snuggly newborn poses. But don’t worry — I’ve photographed newborns at 4, 6, even 8 weeks old and still captured beautiful, timeless images.

What If My Baby Is Older or a Preemie?

I’ve worked with babies born prematurely, sometimes photographing them at 10–12 weeks old — and often they’re still smaller than full-term newborns! Every baby is different, and I always adapt each session to meet your baby’s unique needs, whether they’re fresh from the hospital or already starting to show off their personality.

That newborn “curl” — the ability to curl up like they did in the womb — usually lasts for a couple of weeks after birth. Some babies stay flexible longer, but as they grow and fill out, those cute little bellies can make posing a bit trickier (and honestly, more adorable!).
