Autumn was such an absolute dream to photograph during her newborn session here in my San Antonio photography studio. From the moment she was settled, she curled beautifully into each pose and slept peacefully throughout her entire photoshoot — every newborn photographer’s dream client. Mom had a wonderful vision for Autumn’s session and selected a soft color palette of light purples and teal, with a dark pink wrap for her sibling portraits with big sister. How adorable is Miss Leah? Out of all the jobs in the world, I truly believe working with newborns daily as a newborn photographer here in San Antonio wins every contest. There is nothing sweeter than capturing those tiny details, sleepy stretches, and peaceful expressions during a baby’s first days of life.

Miss Leah was under two weeks old for her studio newborn session, which is the perfect age for beautifully posed newborn photography. She is the second baby for this wonderful family — and the second newborn session I’ve had the honor of photographing for them. San Antonio Newborn Photographer | Newborn Session for a Military Family on the Move

One of my favorite things about being a San Antonio newborn photographer is when my maternity clients come back to me for their baby’s newborn session. There’s something incredibly special about watching that journey come full circle — from bump to baby.

This gorgeous mama came to see me just a couple of months ago for her maternity portraits, and before I knew it, she was back in the studio with her brand-new little one — only five days new!

What made this session even more inspiring was that mom and dad were in the middle of a military move — literally moving the same day as their newborn session. Their house was packed up, boxes everywhere, and they still made time to capture these moments before heading out. That level of dedication says everything about how much these memories mean.

For their baby’s color palette, mom and dad chose a beautiful combination of light blue, dark pinks, and mauves — a mix that felt both classic and modern. Every family I work with gets to help choose their color schemes, because I want each setup to feel personal and meaningful to them.

Being a San Antonio newborn photographer comes with so many beautiful rewards — and one of my favorites is all the newborn snuggles!

This sweet baby girl is the third daughter from a family I’ve had the joy of photographing over the years. I’ve captured newborn portraits for two of her sisters and cake smash sessions for both of the oldest girls. I never imagined that capturing the tiniest, sweetest moments of a baby’s first days would bring so much purpose and joy to my life. Every session is a chance to freeze time for new parents — to preserve those squishy cheeks, curled toes, and sleepy smiles that change all too quickly.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?

If you’re a parent wondering when to schedule your newborn session, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common questions I get. Many new parents worry:

“Should I book before the baby arrives?”
“What if my baby comes early or late?”
“Is two weeks too young for photos?”

Here’s what I tell my clients: the best time to pre-book your newborn session is during your second or third trimester. While we won’t set a fixed date until your baby arrives, reserving your spot ensures I’ll have availability when the time comes. Babies tend to be sleepier and more flexible under two weeks old, which makes for those classic snuggly newborn poses. But don’t worry — I’ve photographed newborns at 4, 6, even 8 weeks old and still captured beautiful, timeless images.

What If My Baby Is Older or a Preemie?

I’ve worked with babies born prematurely, sometimes photographing them at 10–12 weeks old — and often they’re still smaller than full-term newborns! Every baby is different, and I always adapt each session to meet your baby’s unique needs, whether they’re fresh from the hospital or already starting to show off their personality.

That newborn “curl” — the ability to curl up like they did in the womb — usually lasts for a couple of weeks after birth. Some babies stay flexible longer, but as they grow and fill out, those cute little bellies can make posing a bit trickier (and honestly, more adorable!).
